「Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)」はアルバム「I Am... Sasha Fierce」からのシングルとして「If I Were a Boy」とダブルA面として2008年10月8日にリリースされました。
これはアルバム「I Am... Sasha Fierce」が、ビヨンセの内面などパーソナルな部分に焦点を当てた「I Am...」、ステージ上での別人格：サーシャ・フィアースに焦点を当てた「Sasha Fierce」と2部構成のコンセプト・アルバムであることが関係しています。
そしてこの女性へ向けた明確なメッセージ性を含んだダンス・トラックは、全米で4週連続1位を獲得、世界中で大ヒットを記録しビヨンセの代表曲となりました。
リリース以降のワールド・ツアーでは必ずセットリスト入りしています（Renaissance World Tourではビデオ・インタールド”Mind Control”内で使用）。
