バルバドス出身のリアーナのデビュー曲である「Pon de Replay」は、ファースト・アルバム「Music of the Sun」からのリードシングルとして2005年5月24日にリリースされました。

ポップにダンスホール、レゲエ、R&Bをミックスさせた聞き応え十分なサウンドは、現在でもあまり古さを感じさせません。

アメリカ、イギリスを含む多くの国でトップ5以内の好チャートを記録し、間違いなくリアーナの代表曲ではあるものの、その後にリリースした楽曲があまりにも多く大ヒットしているため影が薄くなりがちですが、楽曲としてのクオリティは非常に高いです。

全体的にクラブでDJに向かって「音を上げて」「もう一度あの曲をかけて」とリクエストしながら、みんなで盛り上がりたいというエネルギーに満ちた世界観が描かれています。
